COMUNICADO OFICIAL

MINISTRY OF PEOPLE´S POWER FOR FOREIGN RELATIONS

BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUÉ

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemns the pseudo report issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Venezuela, which - again – consciously incurs in lies, unfounded and biased accusations and the dissemination of false assumptions about the Venezuelan reality.

The instrumental use of the Office of the High Commissioner with political ends for attacking Venezuela, distorting that Office’s laudable purposes, unfortunately has become a regrettable habit during recent times. The use of fake news spread by unscrupulous media, without any checking, and the use of double standards in the field of human rights, again expresses a biased and shameful position, which violates international law and the sovereignty of Venezuela.

It is reprehensible that the Office of the High Commissioner insists on openly mislead the international community about the events of violence perpetrated by a sector of the Venezuelan opposition since last April, ignoring the abundant, enlightening and reliable documentation provided to that Office by the Venezuelan State, which proves the responsibility of opposition leaders in the organisation, promotion and financing of acts of violence, which have thrown a painful toll of more than one hundred people dead, thousands wounded and enormous damage and suffering to the Venezuelan people.

And it is even more serious that the Office of the High Commissioner does not express any solidarity with the victims of this violent and criminal political strategy, whose sole purpose is to overthrow the legitimate Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

It is morally reprehensible that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, based on an incomplete report not officially concluded, based on opinions collected in interviews allegedly made by a so-called "team of experts", affirms the existence of "massive violations" of human rights and presents such hoax to the world as conclusions of the United Nations, thus compromising the good name and reputation of this organisation and its Member States.

The spurious findings of the so-called "UN expert team" endorsed by the High Commissioner have seriously damaged the probity, impartiality, fairness, honesty and good faith that should prevail in the actions of that Office and represent a dangerous precedent to the United Nations.

This happens a few days after the successful installation of the sovereign and legitimate National Constituent Assembly in Venezuela, and when peace and calm returns to the streets, and when the Venezuelan opposition, after the failure of this violent attack, announces its return to the electoral and constitutional way by deciding to participate in the regional elections on December 10, 2017.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its complete disregard of this illegal document used to impose an opinion based on a vile and biased approach by the Office of the High Commissioner and will take the necessary diplomatic actions to denounce this new aggression against our people and our country, from a body that should serve with balance and impartiality to the protection of human rights in the world.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, now immersed in a popular constituent process, ratifies its commitment to peace, the promotion of dialogue among all sectors of the country, political tolerance and the full respect for human rights, which are essential conditions for solving the problems that afflict us.
